Together with her artistic co-conspirator, Karen Atkins, Susan creates one-of-a-kind mosaics, which covey a sense of whimsy and joy, Most of their pieces are decorative, featuring mirrors, geometric designs or animals, but some double as flowerpots, lamps or teapots, inviting interaction between the piece and its user.
For the artistic team, the tactile, physical presence of the mosaic medium is compelling and also affords them great creative flexibility. They have executed highly organized patterns and colorful abstractions, along with representations that range from the literal to the fanciful.
Sustainability is very important to Susan and Karen, and their creativity is sparked anytime they can rescue items from a landfill. They take pride in repurposing and salvaging materials, whether it is a piece of vintage jewelry or a yard sale treasure. They have used everything from bathroom tiles to dinner plates in their pieces and are always on the hunt for new-old materials to use next!
